Subject: Harry' Ditizler's Parents and kids

Harry Bowman Ditzler's parents were William Ditzler and Mary Bowman Ditzler. In the oldest writing in the family bible, Ditzler was spelled Deitzler. It was spelled that way for all of William and Mary's information about them and their children. For the writing for the next generation (information pertaining to Harry and Susan and children), the last name was spelled Ditzler. The writing in the bible is in to different handwriting.
My Mom used to always say she was surprised anyone could follow family histories of farmers. Besides the use of nicknames, many of the older generations could not read or write very well. So who know's who really knew how to spell their last names. Many times, if the family member could not read or write, the calligrapher writing in the bibles spelled the names like they thought it should be spelled.
Her father Harry is listed as Henry (#7), under the list of children born to William and Mary.
This could be due to nicknames. Her dad was called Harry by some, and Hen by others. This name swap continued with my mom's brother Harry H Ditzler. He was always referred to as Henner. Many people thought my Mom's name was Roberta because she was always called Bobbie. But in fact, her name was Florence. Go figure! There are many to this day that didn't know her name was Florence. In her obituary and on her grave marker, we called her Florence "Bobbie" Long.
It was easy to see that you had Sarah as Sally. That was what she was referred to for most of her life. One other twist was my Aunt Naomi. She was always called Tootie. There were many friends and family who did not know her given name either.
I will spell the last names as in the bible.
William Deitzler was born April 17, 1854 of Lancaster Co, PA
Mary Bowman was born October 4, 1850, if South Lebanon Township, Lebanon Co, PA
William and Mary were married on April 28th, 1872
William and Mary had the following children, all stating they were of Cornwall Ts. (assuming this means township), Lebanon Co., PA.
Sarah Deitzler born May 19, 1873
Lizzie Deitzler born July 27, 1874
William Deitzler born March 18, 1876
Annie Deitzler born August 30, 1877 -- died September 21, 1877
Mary Deitzler born May 23, 1880 baptized August 23, 1880 by Rev. F W Kremer -- died February 12, 1882
John Deitzler born February 17, 1882 baptized May 21, 1882 by Rev. F W Kremer
Henry Deitzler (this was Harry) born November 7, 1883 baptized June 15, 1884 by Rev. F W Kremer
Samuel Deitzler born February 5, 1885 baptized by Rev Christian Seehrist (?) (that least that is what it looks like)
Emanuel Deitzler born March 7, 1887 baptized June 19, 1887 by Rev Christian Seehrist
Katie Deitzler born April 30, 1892 -- died that day
I got to go. I'll get more info later.
Bye for now.

160 From Mary Hilton's Father's Obituary, we know that there was a Mrs. Daniel Williams in the family. If we check the 1880 Census, we find a Daniel Williams with a wife of Mary Ann... Her age is given as 22 which would match her age form the previous two census's when she was living with her father John, so this is a possibility. Assuming this is correct, then this Daniel would have been born about 1856. Checking out the 1900 Census for Lancaster County, we find another Daniel Williams with wife Mary, however their ages are about 2 years off. That is where I got the names of the younger 4 children of this marriage, which is still suspect. Family (F397)

Marriage Information for a Hettie H. Bates and John H. Hilton on 28 Mar 2897 from Lancaster County PA

171 I am assuming they had no children, since there were NONE listed in any census, and if they had none by 1930, most likely would not. Family (F710)

172 I am only assuming that Henry and Susanna are the parents of Mary Katie Christ, based on the 1860/70 census and looking for Mary's, Katie's, and Catherin's of the correct age.

Marriage Notes for Henry Crist and Susan Dunmoyer:

173 I don't believe the Source.... 1) Samuel does show up in the 1900 Census in the same building as Addison, but Samuel was born in 1878 which is prior to Samuels marriage and I belive that this Samuel is actually the brother and not the son of Addison. The record states that Addison and Mary only had 4 children and by 1920, only 3 were still living. I believe these to be Harry, Carrie and William.

Deyer, Samuel (I1681)

174 I found one Patrick Desmond in the Social Security Death Index that may match so I am using these dates until I know otherwise. Desmond, Patrick L. (I1750)

175 I have an obituary in 1915 (Elizabeth White Singer), stating that she has a son in Lancaster. Looking at the 1900 census, I find a Walter W Singer aged 27 with a wife Viola (clearly spelt) aged 28, and Son Walter B age 4.

Moving forward to the 1920 census I find a Walter W Singer, age 37 (looks like a match) but this wife appears to be Minnie R, aged 29, and one son William R, age 1 y 3 months. This is obviously not the same William, based on age... Did Walter lose both his wife and son? or maybe a diviorce and then remarry within this decade?

In the 1930 census, we have Walter W Singer, age 47, and son William R, aged 11, so this is good. However, the wife is now Catharine age 52.

Singer, Walter W (I2294)

176 I have found this family in the 1880 Census in Springfield, Erie Co, PA. The children match and this list is based on the GIBBLE book. However, I have not verified that this Abraham is the child of Benjamin and Mary. Gibble, Abraham Hilton (I1926)

177 I have made the assumption that Edward's Son is this David based on:

1) Edward's Will lists two grand children Elisabeth and Edward, both of whom are names of David's older children, althought why he would not bequeath anything to the oldest son, I don't know, althought the second son is named after him and the older son may have died or no longer been living at home.

2) Both Hilton's were located in Warwick Twp.

178 I know this information goes against what has been published in "The Descendants of Henry Gibbel" books. Here are the reasons.

1) I can find NO evidence that the marriage of Jacob Gibble was actually to Barbara EBY. I have even asked the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society Genealogist to prove or disprove and he supports me.

2) I DO have a Lancaster County Orphans Court record for the death of Edward Hilton in 1824 stating that Edward's daughter Barbara was the wife of a Jacob Gibble.

3) The time frame is correct.

4) In the "Descendants ...." books, one of the children of Jacob and Barbara are listed with the middle initial of "H" which was not uncommonly the mothers maiden name.

If you can disprove me... PLEASE DO SO.

Thanks

179 IMMIGRATION: I have been unable to find any HILTON that immigrated prior to 1737... The closest I have found is the Ship SUPPLY that docked in Feb 1726 in Annapolis, MD, had the following people:

Edward Leigh, Agnes Leighton, Richard Leighton... My argument that these could be them was that We know Edward Hilton had a daughter named Agnes, so if Edward Leigh and Agnes Leighton were husband and wife. In Edwards will, he left property to his daughter Agness Wishet, was she named after his wife? Then Richard was most likely related... there is a Richard Hilton that owned land in Lancaster County in 1750.... Now, this ship brought Felons.... the saga continues.

14 will be 1st inductees in Manheim Central Hall of Fame
Author: Rochelle A. Shenk, Correspondent

Article Text:

Fourteen Manheim Central alumni will become the first honorees of the Manheim Central Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The induction ceremony and banquet to honor the alumni will be held at Manheim Central High School.

Mike Clair, chairman of the Manheim Central Alumni Association's Hall of Fame committee, said the honorees fall into two general categories.

Some have demonstrated excellence in their careers and attribute a portion of their success to the time spent at Manheim Central or its predecessor, Manheim High School.

Others are not Manheim graduates but have made significant contributions to the Manheim Central school community for 10 or more years, Clair said.

Clyde "Red" Witman, Class of 1950, a Manheim Central athlete who was on the 1950 District III Wrestling All-Star Team and was a champion and state runner-up in javelin. He was also a teacher and coach -- with a PIAA record of six regional champions in 1956 -- and was named to seven athletic halls of fame.
